JARC is a Michigan-based non-profit, non-sectarian agency located in Oakland County, Michigan dedicated to enabling people with developmental disabilities to live full, dignified lives. Those served by JARC are encouraged to live as independently as they can, while still having their wide range of needs met. Whenever possible, they are included in decision-making. Everyone served by JARC is invited to a wide variety of donor-sponsored events including holiday celebrations, cookouts, social opportunities, classes, concerts, opportunities to explore their own interests, and so much more.

JARC's services fall into 3 areas:

  1. Residential Services

    • JARC provides service in 20 group homes. Appropriate staffing is provided for each home based on the plan of service for each person who lives at each location. JARC strives to update the homes to improve accessibility and make other essential changes as donor funding allows.

  2. Independent Living Services

    • This program enables individuals with developmental disabilities to live in their own apartment or condo, either alone or with a roommate. The needs of these individuals vary, and each person receives staffing, skills building, and personalized support based on their needs.

  3. Respite Service

    • JARC’s Respite program utilizes specially-trained staff to provide families with a much-needed break from caring for their loved one with developmental disabilities. Staff teach skills and work on goals as outlined in the person's service plan, including participating in community activities.

Services for The Deaf

JARC serves men and women who are Deaf and have a developmental disability. These individuals live in a JARC home or in their own apartments.

All staff working in the Deaf programs are fluent in American Sign Language, and many are Deaf themselves.  They meet the same requirements as all other JARC staff including extensive training and background checks.
