* March 2012 - The Arc of Oakland County marked National Developmental Disabilities Month with its 42nd annual Dove Awards by naming JARC as the Provider Agency of the Year. JARC was recognized for "providing consistent, positive, and nourishing community-based services for persons with developmental disabilities."  Also honored was Richard Graff, a participant in JARC's Shetzer Independent Living Services program with the Sheldon Dunn Inspiration Award for spearheading the annual "Heart To Heart" social action project which prepares and delivers candy gift baskets and cards to sick and needy children.  Click here to learn more about the Dove Awards.


* February 2012 - The National Association for Business Resources (NABR) named JARC as one of the 2011 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For.  The awards were presented in five markets:  Atlanta, Detroit, Chicago and West Michigan.  Companies were assessed in many categories, including:  compensation and benefits, diversity, recognition and retention, and employee engagement and commitment. Read more about what CORP! magazine says makes a "winning" company.

* November 21, 2011 -  State Legislators Matt Lori and Lisa Brown, along with the State of Michigan Director of Community Health, Olga Dazzo, and the Jewish Federation's Government Relations Oversight Committee toured JARC's Laker Home. They had an opportunity to meet the people JARC serves upon their arrival home from work as well as experience the warm and caring interaction of the people we serve with our staff.   JARC was represented by President-Elect Ron Applebaum, Board Member and State Representative Lisa Brown, past Board member Dennis Bernard, CEO Rick Loewenstein, COO Chris Hench, Chief Development Officer Rena Friedberg, Home Manager Margaret Hill, and direct care staff Sherri Retta and Sandra Baldwin.


* September, 2011 - JARC has been awarded a $15,000 grant as part of the Art Van Million Dollar Charity Challenge.  On behalf of JARC, CEO Richard Loewenstein accepted the award at a reception held by Art Van Furniture to recognize the agency's important work in the community.  This is the third consecutive year that Art Van Furniture has supported Michigan-based children, health and human services programs by providing $1 million per year to fund 50 grants.  Art Van Furniture designed the grants as "challenge grants" in order to encourage others to donate and maximize fundraising.  As part of the challenge component, JARC is launching a HIGH FIVE campaign, to coincide with SpringElation 2012, and which will see Art Van's grant adding $1 to every $4 new donation or $4 increase to a 2011 SpringElation gift.  

* February, 2011 -  Volunteers gathered for the 16th year to package candy and treats for sick and needy children as part of JARC's Heart To Heart project.  Started by two people served by JARC, the project was recognized in an article published in the Oakland Press.                                                                
                     Chris and John McGee in Holland                                                                                                                      * November, 2010 - Chris Hench, JARC's Chief Operating Officer, was invited to speak at the 11th Annual International Gentle Teaching Conference in Haarlem, The Netherlands.  Attended by guests from 13 countries, the theme was "Relationships:  The Core of Care Giving."  Chris's presentation was on "helping people with disabilities develop genuine relationships through club memberships", and was very well-received by attendees.  Next year's conference will take place in Michigan with JARC as co-sponsor.  Here, Chris is pictured at this year's conference with "Gentle Teaching" founder, John McGee.

* November, 2010 - The Detroit Free Press recognized JARC as one of the 2010 Top Workplaces.  The competition was done in partnership with WokplaceDynamics, a company that provides workplace surveys.  JARC was named #3 in the midsize business category, and was praised as an organization that "operates by strong values and ethics."

* July 30, 2010 - For the 9th time, JARC has been named one of Southeast Michigan’s 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For!  This award recognizes JARC as one of the best employers in the Detroit area from the standpoint of employee attraction, retention and satisfaction.

* May 5, 2010 - Oakland County Commissioners present JARC with an official proclamation recognizing 40 years of outstanding service to the community and innovative "green" initiatives.

* April 2010 - Chaya Leah Tinman, Coordinator of JARC's School Inclusion Program wins the Arc of Oakland County annual Dove Award for Inclusion Leadership

* April 2010 - JARC and The Frankel Organization are recognized by The Detroit Engineering Society for the concept, design and construction of the barrier-free Nusbaum Family Home in Farmington Hills.

* April 2010 - Carrie Thomason, Manager of JARC's Schechter Home in West Bloomfield is selected to receive a 2010 Spirit of Service Award by the Michigan Assisted Living Association (MALA) for her outstanding accomplishments as a supervisory staff working in residential services programs.

* February 2010 - United Way for Southeastern Michigan awarded a grant of $120,000 to JARC through its Energy Efficiency Program for Supportive Housing.  This grant will be used to implement renewable technology in addition to enery cost-saving measures in JARC homes.

* January 2010 - JARC artists a hit at the BBAC Exhibit.

* December 2009 - JARC receives a grant from the Community Foundation of Southeastern Michigan to work toward sustainable energy solutions.

* October 2009 - JARC featured in The Oakland Press.
