The Arc of Oakland County marked National Developmental Disabilities Month by announcing its 43rd annual Dove Awards. JARC Chief Operating Officer, Chris Hench, was named winner of the Distinguished Service Award for her many significant contributions to enhancing the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities. Chris was instrumental in developing JARC's Harris Children and Family Division as well as JARC’s program serving people with developmental disabilities who are Deaf. She also introduced the agency to the practice of Gentle Teaching. For thirty years, she has been a strong advocate for the people JARC serves, earning her the respect of her staff, colleagues and those who work in the field.
Also recognized by The Arc was David Dixon, winner of the Residential Service Award. David is the Manager at JARC's Ridgeside program which serves individuals who are Deaf and have a developmental disability. He is a dedicated multi-tasker who has successfully dealt with challenging behaviors using the principles of Gentle Teaching, built solid relationships with the families of those he serves and been active in training two new managers for the Deaf program.
Both Chris and David will receive their awards at the Annual Dove Awards Presentation and Silent Auction banquet on April 12, 2013 at the San Marino Club in Troy.
CONGRATULATIONS TO CHRIS AND DAVID!
