Transition Homes
Many people served by JARC want the freedom of independent living but still need some of the support offered by a traditional group home. To this end, JARC created transition homes.
These settings, which look very similar to a standard group home, provide a bridge for those preparing to live independently. Often, people will move from a more traditional group home in preparation for eventual independent living. Transition homes also provide more support for someone who can no longer live on their own but can manage more independence than a group home can allow. People who had been living independently but develop a need for additional support may move to a transition home rather than a traditional group home.
Each transition home has full-time, professional staff providing care, guidance, transportation and supervision to those living in the home. Staff act in the role of “coach,”supporting each individual to participate in the running of the home, make independent decisions, and become part of the community.
Four people live in each JARC transition home.
