Social and Recreational Opportunities

What do people served by JARC do?  Whatever they want!

People served by JARC are strongly encouraged to develop and pursue hobbies and interests.  All of those served by JARC either work or attend a day program.  Family members of people served by JARC are amazed that their loved one is always so BUSY.  Whether they’re at a ballgame, a concert, or a picnic, people served by JARC are on the go.  Each of JARC’s homes has transportation and those served by JARC’s Independent Living Program can take advantage of the Hadas & Dennis Bernard Family Transportation Program.

Some examples of what people do at JARC include:

  • Social and recreational activities – Offering everything from a cruise on the Detroit River to Super Bowl parties to concerts and bowling, JARC is equipped to provide activities that interest and stimulate the people we serve.
  • JARC’s CHEERS Project: Making Community Connections – Funded in part by The Jewish Fund and the Jacob G. Schmidlapp Trusts, Fifth Third Bank, Trustee, the CHEERS project seeks to foster connections and friendships between people with and without disabilities in integrated settings.
  • The Rosen RRR Program – A program for older retired adults who are too frail to go to other retiree programs.  By ensuring relaxation, recreation and relationships, RRR participants are constantly on the move.
  • Religious life – By providing access to religious activities for those that choose it, JARC adds spirituality as another important dimension to the lives of those served.  From Shabbat dinners to the Christian Social Group, JARC seeks new and exciting ways to meet this important need.
  • Social Action Group – People served by JARC want to give back and do so by participating in numerous projects in the community, from packing Valentine’s candy for children with AIDS to preparing and serving dinner at a homeless shelter.
