As part of our Independent Living Services, JARC serves men and women who are Deaf and have a developmental disability.  These individuals live in their own apartments or homes.  Staff assists, teaches and provides supervision as needed.

All staff working with Deaf people are fluent in American Sign Language; many are Deaf themselves.  They meet the same requirements as all other JARC staff, including extensive training and background checks.

Some of those served receive round-the-clock care, while others need just a few hours a week.  JARC tailors its support to the needs of each person.  Some people have a roommate while others live on their own.

Social and recreational activities may include:
• Inclusion in the Deaf Community
• Individual and group activities in the community
• Holiday celebrations
• Help from a recreational therapist to discover meaningful in- and out-of-home interests
• Use of a vacation home in Northern Michigan
• Access to religious activities for those who are interested
